ILE DE BEAUTE
Redesigned app for the largest perfume and beauty store in Russia
The ILE DE BEAUTE store is a part of SEPHORA and has been the leader on the Russian perfume and beauty market for more than 10 years. ILE DE BEAUTE was the first beauty retailer in Russia to launch a mobile online store.

In 2016 we released the first version of the app. It was supposed to help the store keep in close touch with its regular customers.

While the store believed its regular customers to be women of about 35 with an average or higher than average income, actual stats demonstrated that most users of the app are women younger than 30 who employ make up as a way of expressing themselves rather than concealing imperfections.

2 years after the ILE DE BEAUTE app was released, its design began to seriously lag behind other apps in the beauty industry, so it was time for a redesign.

"It was necessary to simplify purchasing and give the app a more modern look"

>300 screens
on two platforms, iOS and Android

People looking for a specific product require a catalogue, while those interested in events and new discounts are better off exploring the main page. With this in mind, we separated the catalogue and the main page.
Inside each product screen we shifted the focus towards the image and the button by making them more prominent.
The discount card was merged with the profile, the wishlist became a separate tab, while the catalogue was moved to the tab bar.
Store addresses now included subway stations, and each store now displayed not only its working hours, but also available brands.
Previously, due to some back-end specifics, placing an order required filling in 20 fields. We sped up the process by making the fields auto-fill during repeat orders, leaving the user to only specify their address and payment option.

The black and white color scheme and native fonts chosen instead of the signature Carisma font allowed to better draw the user’s attention to the content, making visual design less distracting. Subsequently, ILE DE BEAUTE did the same on their website.
Previously you would upload content to the app using the admin panel. However, it’s better to have a separate interface for everything, which is why we developed a visually engaging and flexible tool.
More about the admin panel
The new admin panel:
— makes  work results apparent: by using preview mode the admin sees the end result as it will be displayed on a device screen, and can correct mistakes before they are seen by users;
— transforms the main page into an effective sales channel: the admin panel is quick and convenient for uploading images and preparing interesting events;
— shortens the purchase pipeline: when clicking on a banner on the main page, the user is forwarded wherever the admin wants them to, be it a gift certificate or an item of men’s perfume from the Chanel catalogue;
— saves time when working with images: instead of uploading 4−5 images for various screen sizes the admin uploads a single image which is then processed server-side.
